Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a heterogeneous group of clonal disorders of haematopoietic stem cells, characterised by ineffective haematopoiesis leading to peripheral cytopenias and hypercellular bone marrow, with increased propensity to progression to acute myeloid leukaemia.
